As part of a former loop of the Rhine, the NSG Fritschlach encompasses the Saumsee and parts of the Alter Federbach river. In the north of the Fritschlach, clays and loams were extracted from the silted loop as building material for the half-timbered houses: This is how the so-called Saumseen were created. The lakes in the center of the Rhine arc, on the other hand, are more recent; gravel and sand were dredged here to build bunkers during the Second World War.
See nazka.de/fritschlachThe mule track is really recommended, especially in spring when the fruit trees are in bloom.
