In the middle of the mini-roundabout is a Liberation Monument in memory of the 2nd World War. It is a stone pillar, topped by a gull with outspread wings. This should symbolize peace and freedom. The V of the outspread wings stands for Victory. The monument is in memory of Rudolf Tappenbeck (1898-1944) a resistance fighter from Noordwijk. The monument was designed by Oswald Wenckebach and was unveiled in 1948.
