The Petruskerk is located in the middle of the village of Pieterburen. The origins of the current building go back to the 15th century. The tower was added at the beginning of the 19th century, the original free-standing tower from the 14th century was then demolished. The history of the church is closely intertwined with that of the village and the inhabitants of the former borg "Huis ten Dijke".
Domies Toen, the pastor's garden, is located near the Petruskerk. Where the rectory used to be, with the vicar's pendulum and utility garden, there is now a garden with a special collection of plants.

The Petruskerk shows that the Gothic style had come of age in the Groningen countryside. The interior is adorned by a beautiful triumphal arch and bears many traces of the residents of the Dijksterhuis estate. This church, together with three other Groningen churches, is one of the largest museums in the Netherlands. Thirteen beautiful monuments of different denominations form the basis of this Greatest Museum. The churches are special because of their history, architecture and works of art
