The main building of the town hall had not been completed for long when the merchants built their guild hall in its immediate vicinity in 1494. They were the wealthiest and most influential citizens of the town and demonstrated this with this building, which almost overshadowed the town hall. The façade was built over several times over the centuries, and the resulting juxtaposition of styles certainly contributes to the charming character: the baroque imperial figures feel at home in the Gothic decoration of their niches.
