Haltern am See has been known nationwide as a local recreation area since the 1920s and is particularly popular with people from the nearby Ruhr area. The hotel was built in 1927 and was therefore built 3 years before the Haltern reservoir was flooded. The southern shore of the lake is on Hullerner Straße, directly opposite the hotel car park. Even then, the hotel was a popular destination for day trippers and short vacationers, and it has remained so to this day. The hotel has been owned by the Kandaouroff family since 1997.
