Tips

  • Sandra Schwabach

The Wesel-Datteln Canal is a federal waterway in North Rhine-Westphalia and the busiest waterway in Germany after the Rhine. The shipping canal runs through the northern Ruhr area and connects the river Rhine near Wesel with the Dortmund-Ems canal at the Datteln waterway intersection. The stretch between Wesel (sports harbor on the Rhine) and Datteln (transition to the Dortmund-Ems Canal) is 60 kilometers long and has 6 locks.Cycling is very nice here, as the path always runs along with a view of the canal and it is wide and very easy to navigate. Unfortunately, there are no beer gardens directly on the way on this part of the route.
