Helschot is located at the end of the street Elsschot. This 60-hectare forest area has been designated a forest reserve where nature is given free rein. The plants are typical of old forests such as muskwort, wood anemone, marsh marigold, rarefied sedge, valley herb, etc. The frosted head, bullfinch, nightingale, woodpeckers and small kingfisher butterfly feast on the nutrient richness of this forest. It is in this forest that the writer Willem Elsschot (Alfons de Ridder) sought and found his inspiration for his books.
