The small house was used by the Brentano family as a bathhouse. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe also enjoyed staying there, despite his ambivalent relationship with the Brentano family. Maximiliane von La Roche, whom he adored, married the merchant Pietro Antonio Brentano. Goethe processed the loss in "The Sorrows of Young Werther."
