The Westhafen was opened in 1886 and is a former inland port. The counterpart to this is the Osthafen in Ostend.Wikipedia writes .....
The harbor mole (Karpfenweg) is now built up to the river crab footbridge with twelve individual seven-story houses. Some of them stand on stilts in the water and have their own jetties. The Westhafen Tower, a glazed high-rise office building on a circular floor plan, has stood at the eastern entrance since 2003. It was one of the first buildings to be completed on the former Westhafen. At 109 meters, the Westhafen Tower is one of the smaller Frankfurt skyscrapers. Because of its diamond-shaped facade, the people of Frankfurt also refer to it as the largest Ebbel wine glass in the world or "Geripptes".On the western side of the bank section, shortly before the Main-Neckar Bridge, further office buildings (Torhaus, Westhafen Pier etc.) were built in front of the West Mainova thermal power station on Gutleutstraße. The listed pressurized water works, the last historical building of the former port facilities, is also located here. It is part of the Rhein-Main industrial culture route.
