The work by artist Corrad Cagli consists of triangles that gradually decrease in size towards the top, based on the basic motif of the Star of David, forming a pyramid that is twisted inward due to axial shifts. The sunken space beneath the sculpture is accessible. Since the memorial's erection, Göttingen residents have gathered annually on November 9, the anniversary of the November Pogrom of 1938, at the synagogue square to commemorate the murdered Jews and other victims of the National Socialist dictatorship.

The former synagogue in Göttingen was burnt down on the pogrom night on 09.11.1938. As a reminder, there is a memorial made of steel pipes at the former location "Synagogue Square", reminiscent of a flame.
