The small forest chapel belongs to Neuhausen and is located right next to Steinegg Castle. You can light a candle here for a small fee. Lighter and matches are also available.

Behind the Steinegg Castle lies the Maria Hilf forest chapel between trees. The chapel was donated by Sebastian Forster in 1683 and rebuilt in 1739 by Karl Dietrich Anton von Gemmingen.

The legend about the creation of the forest chapel (source: plaque on the chapel):

When Steinegg Castle was threatened by the enemy in the Palatinate War of Succession, the ladies from the family of the Barons von Gemmingen-Steinegg fled to the nearby forest under an overhanging rock and, in their distress and fear, took the vow that, if they were protected by Mary were saved from the enemies Rotte, they wanted to build a chapel in honor of the Holy Virgin Mary on the protective rock. A spider spun the entrance to the hiding place with its web so that no one could suspect that someone was hidden under the rock.
