The railway line from Bergisch Gladbach to Bensberg was opened on October 15, 1870; from Cologne, the line reached Bergisch Gladbach on December 4, 1868. Passenger traffic between Gladbach and Bensberg ceased on September 29, 1965, and freight traffic in 1989. Reactivation as a freight line with transshipment in the Zinkhütte industrial estate ended in 2012. The last journey on the tracks was the diesel V60 locomotive, which arrived in Bergisch Gladbach with "Rheingold" wagons in September 2019.
