The name Saaler Mühle goes back to the medieval grain mill that stood here until the 1980s. It was recorded in the original cadastre east of Auf'm Keppinghausen (= Kippekausen). It was abandoned as a flour mill in the early modern period. In the 18th century it was put back into operation as an oil mill. At the beginning of the 20th century it was completely decommissioned as a mill and has been a popular destination since the 1920s.
