Speer and Hitler and Berlin
"To this day, the »heavy-duty body« bears witness to the most megalomaniac building projects that Berlin has ever seen. Under the direction of General Building Inspector Albert Speer, Adolf Hitler’s architect, a gigantic project was planned from 1937 that was to completely redesign Berlin. According to Hitler's ideas, two main roads, the so-called "East-West axis" and the "North-South axis", would have cut through the new "world capital" like a cross. The greatest attention was paid to the north-south axis with its 7th axis km long and 120 m wide boulevard. At the end of which a huge triumphal arch was planned, which would have blown up all structural dimensions of Berlin. The Second World War put an end to the inhuman urban planning of the National Socialists."
