Speer and Hitler and Berlin"The" heavy load body "still bears witness to the megalomaniacal building projects that have ever existed for Berlin. Under the direction of the general building inspector Albert Speer, the architect Adolf Hitler, a gigantic project was planned from 1937 that was to completely redesign Berlin. Hitler imagined that two main roads, the so-called "East-West Axis" and the "North-South Axis" would have cut the new "World Capital" like a cross. The greatest attention was paid to the North-South Axis with its 7th km long and 120 m wide boulevard. At the end a huge triumphal arch was planned that would have blown up all of Berlin's structural dimensions. The Second World War put an end to the inhumane urban planning of the National Socialists.
