Head trees - typically Lower Rhine. Head trees once secured the wood supply in poorly forested areas, which is why you can see them in open meadows, fields and wet pastureland. The trunk of the young trees was shortened to a height of about two meters and the branches that sprout from them were regularly pruned - they are said to be "topped" or "beheaded". To prevent the older trunks from breaking apart under the weight of their crowns, they still have to be cut regularly.

A beautiful village on the Lower Rhine.
The Rhine loop near Götterswickerhamm has long been a magnet for day trippers.
When the weather is good, it gets very crowded there at the weekend.
