About Manons Wanderwelt

Hallo!

This tour starts in the beautiful town of Kalkar. With its medieval center, Kalkar is one of the most attractive cities for tourists on the Lower Rhine. The tour runs from the historic city center out into the natural landscape of the Lower Rhine. Along the river Kalflak you have views of meadows and fields instead of green. At the Wisseler See there is a dune landscape that is absolutely atypical for this region and is more reminiscent of the North Sea. Information boards explain the origins of the Wissel Lakes, but also something about the flora and fauna. The way back to Kalkar leads back along the Kalflak, but I turn left again onto a hiking trail and this ends at the starting point.Eat & relax:Dünencafé Laakmann, Hellendornstraße 37, 47546 Kalkar
      Website: duenencafe-laakmann.de
Eis Café Venezia / Cason Gbr, Markt 9 in 47546 KalkarThere are a few more places to stop for refreshments in the town of Kalkar, but also in Wissel.Discover & experience:➡️ Wissel educational gravel trail: gravel mining on the Lower Rhine
      ➡️ Wisseler Dunes nature reserve
➡️ In summer: Lake Wisseler See natural swimming pool

      Nice April weather! 🌧☔🌬
What can I say, actually perfect to stick to the training plan, which stipulates that from now on every Saturday 12 kilometers of slow endurance run. Running replaces hiking! 🏃‍♀️🎒🥾
Especially in bad weather, I can motivate myself to go running relatively well. But when hiking! 🤔 If I'm already hiking and it starts to rain, I don't care, I put on a rain suit and go on. I don't mind at all. 🌧🥾🎒😊How about you, can you motivate yourself to go out in rainy weather?

After a short break from running, it's time to start running again. So why not today! The weather in the afternoon was very varied, from sun to hailstones everything was there. Good conditions ... put your running shoes on and off you go.

The good thing about dike walks is that you can't get lost! Not on this tour either: The stork route in Bislich is an approx. 14 km long cycle and hiking circuit and is very well signposted. It leads past eight stork nests that the Heimatverein, Bislicher students and private individuals have set up.The hike offers views of the Rhine again and again, on a clear day you can see the Xanten Cathedral of St. Viktor, and numerous species of birds live in the open river landscapes. Those who swap wild geese spend the winter and nest here, as have pairs of storks for some years now (breeding season from April to August). From the village square you will reach the Catholic Church of St. Johannes after about 100 meters. The stork's nest on the Kirchenwoy is in the immediate vicinity. This nest is equipped with a webcam, the pictures can be seen live on the home page of the Heimatverein (bislich.de).After crossing Bislicher Straße, I go through a gate on the left and come to the Clostermann orchard. I followed the path to the organic shop in Neuhollandshof. A lovingly furnished tea house and a farm shop that offers various organic products await you there (clostermann-organics.com).You have the most beautiful view of the stork's nest from the church garden, which is directly behind the church. Various benches invite you to linger and watch the stork's nest. Don't forget binoculars.Road conditions: paved dyke paths and roads with little trafficEating and relaxing:Gasthof & Café Haus Pooth

Spent a wonderful morning in the Anholter Switzerland wildlife park. This park is very family friendly. Worthwhile for amateur photographers. Entry € 3.50 p. P. (As of February 2021). Unfortunately, not all animals were in their enclosures. The wildlife park and the moated castle were supposed to be a complete hike, but today it was just too fresh outside. And luckily, afterwards I took the car to the moated castle Anholt - the garden is closed due to Corona. Still a very nice castle.

I would like to introduce you to the Grugapark in Essen.
The area is spacious and beautiful. There are many botanical highlights, (very many) playgrounds for children, animals, snack bars and much more. Some attractions, such as the greenhouses and the game reserve, are currently not accessible due to Corona.
Especially when the weather is nice and on weekends, the park is well attended. Many benches and deck chairs invite you to linger.
Wheelchair / rollator suitable. Entry costs € 2 (day ticket).
