Predecessors of the building probably stood here before 1200, as outbuildings of Werden Abbey at a ford on the Old Rhine. In the 15th century, the farm was expanded into a moated castle and knight's residence and has been altered several times over the centuries. Parts of the original structure are still visible. A small park surrounds the building.

Today, Haus Voerde houses the registry office and a restaurant and is also used for events.
