The recreation area "Hohes Elbufer" is listed in the official list of all nature reserves in Schleswig-Holstein under the number 142. It lies on the Elbe between the cities of Geesthacht-Tesperhude and Lauenburg and is 469 hectares in size.The landscape is shaped ice age. At Lauenburg the hiking trails start in the nature reserve Kuhgrund. It is about 3.5-4 km to the "Old Salt Route" near Schnakenbek.
