The middle Ittertal, also called "Solingen Freizeittal", presents itself in the usual less idyllic, outdated way with its partly very dilapidated leisure facilities, which obviously suffered not only under the circumstances of the epidemic.
The antiquated and rotten fairytale forest already looks like a lost place of tomorrow.

The Itter is a 20 km long river that has its source in Solingen-Gräfrath and then flows first west and then south, forming the natural border between Solingen and Haan, later flowing through the Ohligser Heide, bubbling through Hilden, filling the pond at Benrath Castle and finally flows into the Rhine.
At the height of Solingen-Wald, the Ittertaler Volksgarten was created at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, not all of the former splendor has been preserved in all its glory, but the area of the Solingen leisure valley is still a popular destination. The neighboring historical play and leisure park and former fairytale forest still attracts visitors today.
The Heidberger Mühle in the Ittertal is just 50m outside of Solingen in the urban area of Haan. The popular excursion restaurant goes back to a mill from the 17th century. As early as 1894, the Heidberger Mühle was rededicated gastronomically. The mill pavilion in Mühlsee, which burned down in 2006 and was subsequently rebuilt, is an eye-catcher.
Caspersbroich Castle is located further downstream in Ohligs. The castle goes back to a manor house from the 13th century. In the 1960s, an actor took over the already very run-down property and renovated the property into condominiums. From 1975-84 Alfred Herrhausen, who later became Deutsche Bank boss, lived here.

It was a beautiful path through the Ittertal.
