"... With the emergence of civil societies in the 19th century, the "Recreation Society" also emerged in Siegen. People met in the company of like-minded people to seek and find understanding, new impulses and relaxation.
As was customary at the time, the regular meeting of free citizens required official approval, so that the Society for Recreation can still boast of being an association that has had legal capacity since August 9, 1848 by the "highest Prussian cabinet order". social and cultural entertainment for its members, their family members and society guests.
With the help of loans from its members, the Society built its own house, which in 1875 became the "Recreation Home" and remained so until the Second World War.
On December 16, 1944 and early 1945, it was destroyed by bombing raids on Siegen except for parts of the basement. In the post-war turmoil, the ruined property was sold and social life resumed on a modest scale in rented rooms.
It was not until 1954 that "Recovery" found a new home in the Siegerland Economy House in Siegen.
The recovery company played a key role in the construction of this building in 1954 on Wilhelmstrasse (now Spandauer Strasse 25). However, the participation in the Wilhelmstraße property company at that time no longer exists. ..."
