The N86 Surcouf is an iconic fishing vessel from Nieuwpoort that holds a special place in the maritime heritage of the city. Once active in coastal fishing, the ship was purchased by the city in 2006 with the intention of preserving it as a cultural monument. After years of neglect, the Surcouf was finally given a makeover: the ship was sandblasted, repainted in its original colours and upgraded to a tourist attraction on the Handelskaai.
