"De poolreiziger" is a work of the Nieuwpoorter artist Freddy Cappon from the year 2007. It is reminiscent of the polar explorer Dixie Dansercoer (also Nieuwporter).

"The polar explorer" is a coastal work by Freddy Cappon, a native of Nieuwpoort. He made the sculpture on behalf of the city council, on the occasion of the departure of polar explorer and ex-Nieuwpoortenaar Dixie Dansercoer on an expedition in 2007.
The image above all symbolizes the loneliness and the vastness of the universe. The imagined road that Dixie traverses with his skis, alone with his thoughts and feelings, stretches to the gates of heaven.
The sculpture is a dukdalf, an ode to Nieuwpoort. The pillars are 6m high, the circular arcs form the North and South Poles."

The statue was posted almost 17 years (in 2023) ago. Dixie then departed from Nieuwpoort on an expedition to Antarctica.
