The Hüxtertor Bridge has earned a national record.

It was named the worst bridge in Germany in a test by the German Automobile Club (ADAC).

Rust has so damaged the structure over the years that it is in need of renovation. It is old, after all, it was built as a steel arch bridge on the Elbe-Lübeck Canal. That was in 1898. After all, we can admit without envy that this old architecture is probably much more durable than the cheap prestressed concrete craze of our time.

Demolition of this bridge is out of the question; it will be repaired and then passed on to the next generations. After all, it is precisely these steel bridges that make a bridge truly beautiful. If Lübeck built its bridges only from concrete, we would certainly spare ourselves this lengthy article.

Below the bridge, a path runs parallel to the canal, and nearby, a small restaurant with an outdoor area on the water awaits its guests.

The Hüxtertor Bridge connects Hüxterdamm on the eastern part of the Old Town Island with Hüxtertorallee and Falkenstraße.
