Lübeck has a technical specialty, the lifting swing bridge, which connects the city center with the St. Lorenz district. After completion, complete freight trains could finally be shunted from the train station across the Trave to the port facilities on the city side. The bridge was never planned for today's car traffic. Nevertheless, the small bridge has held on bravely for 115 years.
