There is a beautiful viewing ramp next to the bridge, which is well attended when the weather is nice.

Lübeck has a technical specialty, the lifting swing bridge, which connects the city center with the St. Lorenz district. If necessary, the 350-tonne structure can be lifted and rotated 56 degrees within three minutes. Hydraulics ensure the power transmission, and normal tap water serves as the pressure medium.
When the bridge went into operation in 1892, it primarily accelerated traffic on the harbor railway. Since the space at the Holstentor was very limited, a continuous track was not possible.
Before the bridge was built, all wagons had to be turned individually on a turntable behind the Holsten Bridge; people, wagons and goods were transported on a small ferry to the storage areas on the northern Wall Peninsula.
After completion, complete freight trains could finally be shunted from the train station across the Trave to the port facilities on the city side. The bridge was never planned for today's car traffic. Nevertheless, the small bridge has held on bravely for 115 years.
The swing bridge can be found on Willy-Brandt-Allee in Lübeck's old town.
