For centuries, the Schulensbroek was one large natural flood area, which was flooded several times a year. The fertile soil was interesting for farmers. In the mid-1970s, the Schulensmeer was dug: on the one hand for the construction of the E314, and on the other hand as a holding basin to collect excess water.
