schulens-meer.be Sports, recreation and nature. The lake is fed by water from the Demer. The Mangelbeek, the Zwarte Beek, the Herk, the Gete, the Velpe and the Begijnenbeek also flow in the same valley. The lake, surrounded by the inner dike, covers 90 hectares, extending to 150 hectares, surrounded by an outer dike, in the event of large floods of water, on the territory of Linkhout and Schulen. The lake is currently 2.8 km long, about 180 m wide and is 7 to 8 m deep. This makes Schulensmeer the largest inland water in Flanders when it fills up to the outer dikes.
