Based on pottery shards found during excavations in 1936, historians conclude that the Sugambri built the structure during the La Tène period, between 1000 and 50 BC. Radiocarbon dating of the remains of fire has not yet been conducted. Such an analysis could yield similar results to those obtained for the earthwork fortification, which was dated to 310 ± 80 BC.
