The cheese factory, the Catharina Hoeve, has a typical architecture for this area.
The main building is a faithful replica.
It was given to the Zaanse Schans as a gift by a supermarket chain that was celebrating its 100th anniversary.
The barn was built in the second half of the 19th century and was originally located in the hamlet of De Haal in Oostzaan.
This is where the name on the roof comes from.
For over a hundred years it served as a traditional farm barn.
In 1985 the characteristic building was dismantled and transported here, where it was rebuilt around the old half-timbering in 1987.
It is now a listed building.
