This merchant's house was built around 1660 and owes its name (t' Koopmanshuys d'Mol) to its first owner, the Mol family, who became rich through whaling.
The house has thirteen rooms and is the largest residence in the Zaanse Schans.
The wealthy family wanted to exude grandeur and nobility and to show off their wealth.
A beautiful wooden carved family crest hangs above the door.
The house was last inhabited by the Honig family, a well-known papermaking family who produced some of the best paper in the world.Today it is a bed and breakfast.
