Today's evangelical church was built in 1841. There was already a church on the path you walked from the chapel to the church. Due to dilapidation, however, it had to be demolished in 1830. The evangelical church was built in 1839-1841 according to plans by Georg Moller. The church was awarded by NABU in 2010.

Schlierbach, mentioned as early as 1245 in a document from Schönau Abbey, has always belonged to Heidelberg as an outlying settlement, and from 1600 Schlierbach was considered part of the city limits. The old cemetery in Schlierbach is the oldest cemetery in Heidelberg that is still in use. Originally laid out as a churchyard around the Gutleuthof chapel (Laurentius chapel) built in 1430, it has served the people of Schlierbach as a graveyard for centuries.
