The church staircase ends at Tuchmacherplatz. It was owned by the church in the Middle Ages and was not expanded until 1850 with proper steps and railings. The staircase was one of the four old fire lanes between the Ruhr and the Oberdorf. To the right and left are houses, of which house no. 4 is particularly noteworthy from a historical point of view; it was referred to as "Bacharach's house" as early as 1368. A family from Bacharach lived there, who cultivated wine for the Werden abbot in the area of today's “Am Weinberg” street. Next to house no. 5 there is the Kettwig “night watchman”, a handcrafted blacksmith work by Bernhard Nicolai.

If you go down the church steps, you should stop now and then to marvel at the small houses on the steps. In the Middle Ages it was the property of the church and Feuergasse between Ruhr and Oberdorf. Nice little stair-alley from the church upstairs down to the mill pond
