Like the Platkowsee, the Zenssee is an ice-age channel lake. That's why you hike along both lakes mainly on a high bank with mixed forest. If you are lucky, you might even see an osprey or sea eagle that is after carp, tench, bream, pike, pikeperch, perch, eel and many other species of fish.

Together with Wurlsee, Großer Lychensee, Stadtsee and Nesselpfuhl, Zenssee and Platkowsee form the Lychener Seenkreuz, which encompasses the inner area of Lychen almost like an island.
