At the end of the summer of 1944, the Wehrmacht partially blew up this bridge over the lake on the Bruyères side in order to slow down the advance of the Allied troops from the north-east. The demolition of the barrier wall, which had the same purpose, failed. The bridge was repaired with makeshift means and was again passable for light vehicles. The heavy vehicles had to drive over the barrier wall.
