Via this city park and the Kalendijk you get access to the Kalendijk area for walking and with playgrounds for the children.

Before WWI, this park was part of the ravelin of the Brussels Gate. It was a green space. In 1933-34 a concrete railway viaduct was built straight through the park and in 1937-38 the Leopold II avenue was constructed.

The remaining part of the wall became a public park from then on. Two industrialists, Robert Ramlot and Daniël Schellekens, were the driving forces behind this project. A street was named after Robert Ramlot during the first municipal merger (1972) and in 2006 Daniël Schellekens' name was linked to part of the park.

The park area consists of two parts in which you can walk freely.

On one side of the viaduct you will find the Daniël Schellekenspark with the Brusselse Poort as a monumental entrance. The main attractions of the park are a sundial and a bombproof vault.
