The Windebyer Noor was also known earlier as the Eckernförder Noor. The inland lake is about 389 hectares. The white stone consists of reddish granite and was moved here from what is now southern Sweden from Värmland. It weighs around 48 tons and is the sixth largest boulder in Schleswig-Holstein. Its white color comes from the droppings of the sea birds that rest on the stone. Around three quarters of the Windebyer Noores are surrounded by a hiking trail. It is possible to go around the lake completely, but part of it is via roads.

This side of the Noor seems to be very popular with dog owners. There are several small (dog) bathing places.

Somehow you get the impression that the birds are glued on. The pictures look almost the same.

The Windebyer-Noor tongue formed a.o. the Hüttener Berge, the Wittensee-Goossee-Tunge the Duvenstedter Berge. An indication of the glacial origin is a large boulder in Windebyer Noor, the "White Stone". After the Ice Age, sand deposits formed a beach wall system (spit), which gradually separated the Noor from the Eckernförde Bay.

The Windebyer Noor has a lot to offer: The former Eckernförder Kleinbahn, an old watermill, secluded paths, great trees, a glacial boulder and much more!
