South of Minfeld, between the district roads K 23 and K 16, there is a place of remembrance in the Bienwald, which is also called the Candidus memorial. A memorial marks the spot as the place where the royal forest warden Candidus Ludwig Christian was found shot dead. The path at the monument is called "Mordallee".
      mystery of the murder
The royal forest warden Candidus Ludwig Christian came from Minfeld. He was found shot dead at this point in Bienwald on October 14, 1854. Candidus was only 28 years old.

The murderer is said to have been a man from Büchelberg. He was sentenced to death by the guillotine and denied to the last that he was responsible for Candidus' death. The convict's cousin was the only witness for the prosecution at the time. Franz Ludwig Braun was a bat keeper and wood setter and had accompanied Candidus. On the day of the execution, Braun emigrated from Zweibrücken to the United States. After more than seven years he returned to Büchelberg. A short time later, the former witnesses for the prosecution were found murdered. To this day, nothing is known about the cause of his death.
