The building complex at Nikolaistraße 39 in Weißenfels is the Hofmarschallhaus built in 1709 for Hans Moritz von Brühl. The three-storey building, which once towered over the other buildings, testifies to the importance of its builder, who held a number of offices such as Privy Councilor, High Steward to the Duke of Saxe-Weissenfels, Chief Captain of the Principality of Saxe-Querfurt and the Thuringian state portion. There was no ostentatious facade, but the building was considered a noble palace. The former gateway is walled up, but still recognizable. Baroque stucco work has been preserved in the more than 26 rooms.
