It got its name from the street it is on. In 1902, the Weißenfelser Beautification Association commissioned this from Paul Juckoff from Schkopau. For the boy standing on the fountain and playing with the water, Juckoff used the same model as for the Weißenfels town boy, namely Ernst Hoffmann. The Weissenfels coat of arms is shown behind the boy. A year after the contract was awarded, the fountain was completed and unveiled. At that time the well was still surrounded by a small fence. This was later dismantled so that no children playing could injure themselves on it.Source: dieginasunterwegs.wordpress.com/2020/04/24/brunnen-in-weissenfels

Wikipedia: "The Weißenfelser Beautification Association commissioned a fountain from Paul Juckoff from Schkopau in 1902. The fountain was completed and unveiled in 1903. ... A casting process with concrete and sandstone powder was used to manufacture the fountain. The complicated pump and pipe system makes... the fountain required a lot of maintenance. Ernst Hoffmann was the model for the bronze sculpture, as was the case with the Stadtjungen."

Some also say the fountain at the Marien Apotheke, which existed before the fountain.
