Burials continued here until 1902. After that, the cemetery was completely full. The Weißenfels Beautification Society took over the management of the area and transformed it into a local recreation park for the public. It was intended to be a place of peace for the busy industrial society. To this end, the older graves were cleared, but only above ground. Trees were planted, flowerbeds were created, and several monuments were erected.
