Tips

  • The church is one of the smallest in the area. The rectangular building made of mixed masonry was built in the late Middle Ages. It got its current shape after extensive renovations in 1697/98. Remnants of plaster can still be clearly seen. The southern vestibule with the patronage box on the upper floor (now the winter church) is also from this time. The walled-up arch above the ground on the east gable is striking. The chimney on the roof is the exhaust of an iron stove that is used to heat the church. This comes from the former and now completely demolished manor house in Alt Rosenthal. Inside, parts of the gallery and patronage box have been preserved. The baptismal font, made of brass, around 1600, is in Görlsdorf. The church suffered some damage during World War II. Altar, stalls, organ and pulpit were lost. The tower is only accessible through the nave. A seam guesses a widening or repair in the past. One bell from 1508 has the beginning of the rosary as an inscription, the other is from 1743. The weather vane was donated in 1698 by Johann Sigismund von Beerfelden.Source: lznt.de/startseite/alt-rosenthal

  • The cemetery of the community of Alt Rosenthal is also located on the grounds of the church. In addition to a war cemetery for those who died in World War II, the well-known writer, screenwriter and dramaturge Ulrich Plenzdorf (1934 - 2007) is also buried here. He lived in a country house in Alt Rosenthal-Vorwerk for part of the year until his death.
