Nature reserve since 1936, in some places plants that are specially adapted to these conditions grow here due to the high salt content of the groundwater. These sections are very rare inland. Visually, the section impresses above all with its vastness, in which storks also feel comfortable - and acoustically with the frog croaking that can be heard from far away!

In the Wisselsheim meadows, saline water comes to light, which in turn means that flora adapted to it has developed. Only by adapting to these extreme living conditions are plants such as strawberry clover or salt bulrush able to survive.

The nature reserve “Salt Marshes of Wisselsheim” is 23 hectares in size and has 3 hectares of salt marshes. Even the Celts extracted salt from brine springs in the Wetterau.
