The bird fountain on the small Münsterplatz is affectionately called "Möschebrunnen" by the people of Aachen because of its small sparrows, since sparrows are called "Mösche" in the Aachen dialect. Created by Bonifatius Stirnberg in 1978, it is one of the few drinking fountains in the center of Aachen.

On hot days, the Vogelbrunnen (popularly Möschebrunnen) is one of the few drinking fountains in the city center that provides cool refreshment. It was named after the small sparrows that decorate the fountain.
