Prince Frederick William Ludwig of Prussia, then owner of Burg Rheinstein, built the house in Swiss style between 1842 and 1844 as a guest and hunting lodge on the site of the former Fatzberger Hof. A serpentine path connects the castle with the "Schweizerhaus", which today houses a restaurant.
