Schellenberg Castle has been mentioned as a castle and noble residence under the name "Haus auf`m Berge" since the 12th and 13th centuries. The Broich von Mühlheim family initially owned the castle. After various changes of ownership, Johann von Vittinghoff, called Schell, bought the castle in 1452 for 1,100 Rhenish guilders. Since then, Schellenberg Castle has been owned by the von Vittinghoff family, called Schell zu Schellenberg. The current owner is Antoinette Baroness von Elverfeldt-Ulm, the daughter of a woman born von Vittinghoff.
Today, Schellenberg Castle has developed into a modern office location. The mix of well-known and attractive companies has succeeded in filling the castle complex with new life.
