A great, well walkable climb with a magnificent view from the so-called EGGETURM. Through various panels, the story is well explained - interesting photo opportunity.

Attention: Parking at the Externsteinen costs money - but 5 hours around the 3 Euro is reasonable.

The (or: the) Velmerstot is the northernmost and highest mountain of the Eggegebirge in North Rhine-Westphalia. It has the two peaks Prussian Velmerstot (South Summit, about 464 m above sea level NHN [1]), the peak of which rises in the area of Steinheim-Sandebeck in the district Höxter, and the Lippische Velmerstot (♁⊙; Nordkuppe, 441.4 m [1]), which is located in the district of Horn-Bad Meinberg in the district of Lippe. The entire mountain belongs to the nature park Teutoburger Wald / Eggegebirge. On the Prussian Velmerstot is the Eggeturm (observation tower); on the Lippe Velmerstot with heathland are rugged sandstone rocks.

The ascent to the Velmerstot is depending on where you come from - a really steep thing :)

Very idyllic. So hiking is fun! No concrete runway but the forest floor directly under your feet is much more pleasant. But also more exhausting. Always take good care of your feet! There is a risk of stumbling through roots!

Roots and stones form perfect stages. The path is demanding, but manageable. This pine scent is wonderful.

Steep, demanding ascent. The summit rewards you with a fabulous view. You can even spot Hermann.

The path is no longer beautiful at all, almost all of the trees are gone and there are still a lot of them lying around, so that the path is barely recognizable at the moment.

The forest is very thinned in some places due to bark beetle infestation and drought

On the left side of the ascent there was a large ant-tree of the red forest ant.

Here, too, the storm has done a great job. The area is largely open and without protective greenery from above. The path is officially closed due to trees lying around, but a path has formed through it. Sure-footedness and sturdy shoes are the A&O here.

                                          Very exposed to the sun.
We left the Silberbach car park (the first) on a very sunny day. There is forest only on the first 600m, after that the forest is currently destroyed both in the valley and at the top. The right-hand path on the Silberbach is blocked after the stone bridge after 200m.
