In contrast to the other East Frisian island villages, the village of Spiekeroog had neither been relocated in recent centuries nor enlarged and modernized on the part of the infrastructure or building fabric. This favored the preservation of several centuries-old Frisian houses, which give the historic center along with its narrow paths and its old trees a particularly idyllic place.

The wreck can still be seen at low tide today. Depending on the weather, the sand masses move on the beach, so sometimes very much and rarely nothing of the wreck to see. Most of the wreck, however, is a 10 cm to 1 meter protruding from the sand part, which is part of the hull in the direction of aft on the port side of the ship. However, under very favorable conditions, you can see much more than just a piece of steel protruding from the sand; It is rarely possible to see the deck of the ship and some deck superstructures.

Since 1891 there were successively four different investors on the East Frisian island Spiekeroog, over which the ferry traffic between the mainland and the island was handled. They were built after destruction or wear by storm surge or ice drift always in the same place at the southern tip of the island. From the investor the Spiekerooger Inselbahn operated to the village of Spiekeroog. Since 1981, there is a local port south of the village, so that the island railway and investors are no longer necessary and were abandoned.
