The stream rises directly on the main ridge of the Egge Mountains, about 1 km north of Kempen at an altitude of 374 m above sea level. NN. From here the stream flows primarily in a southwesterly direction. It flows through Kempen, the creek seeps underground in the southwest of the village, so that the lower reaches lie in a typical dry valley. About 2.3 km west of Altenbeken the Durbeke flows to 205 m above sea level. NN on the right in the Beke. On its 8.7 km long path, the stream overcomes a height difference of 169 m, which corresponds to an average bottom gradient of 19.4 ‰. The Durbeke drains a 10.95 km² catchment area over Beke, Lippe and Rhine to the North Sea.
