In 1895, the Leonberg “Beautification Association” had two memorial stones erected at the former watchtower; for Schiller and for Schelling.

They complemented the two linden trees that had already been planted in 1888 in honor of the two intellectual giants associated with Leonberg.

These two memorial stones are two of a total of eight on the Engelberg. The Ludmann stonemasonry workshop made the boulders in 1895. They came from the quarries in the Glemstal.

The stones tell an eventful story up to the present day: Leonberg resident Alfred Zepf had the memorial stones on the small tower restored in the summer of 2022 with people of the same age who were born in 1934/35. Because he always associated these stones with a fond memory of his childhood on the Engelberg.
