Below Leonberg Castle lies a very special gem. Well guarded by four corner towers, a garden terrace with decorative fountains and ornamental individual quarters nestles on the slope. A colorful variety of flowers, aromatic, spice and medicinal plants in rhythmically arranged beds show the treasures of a bygone garden art.

The Pomeranzengarten (castle garden) is one of the few terraced gardens from the late Renaissance period that have been preserved in Europe. It is a landmark of the city of Leonberg (incidentally, Pomeranzen are bitter oranges).

The park is one of the few surviving examples of a court garden from the Renaissance in Germany.

On behalf of the Duchess Sibylla von Württemberg, the widow of Duke Friedrich I, Heinrich Schickhardt built a pleasure garden in the style of the Italian Renaissance in front of the Leonberg Castle. On the south side of the castle, a rectangular terrace with a double flight of stairs leading to the valley was laid out in 1609. The terrace was divided into two areas. There is a magnificent fountain in the main axis.

As in the past, the garden is planted with aromatic and medicinal plants as well as flowers.

From 1743 it had lost the character of a princely residence. The garden served as an allotment garden, fell into disrepair and was forgotten. At the beginning of the 1970s, the foundations of the garden came to light again during clearing work. It was then able to be reconstructed by 1980.
