              The valley was originally a large wetland area, which was drained by building in the middle, not so narrow part (outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts). However, some of the typical humid habitats have been preserved to this day. Pond and mountain newts and a large number of common toads inhabit the waters of the Krummbach Valley. During the migration and spawning season of the common toads, the Krummbachtalstrasse is closed to through traffic at night.

              In the Krummbachtal there are former quarries, in which sandstone was mined until the 1960s. Today they are the habitat of the rare natterjack toad. Even the yellow-bellied toad, which is protected throughout Europe, can be found here with a bit of luck. The city of Gerlingen has renatured the Krummbach in various stages.
