Aerial cableway Chur - Känzeli (Brambrüesch) LCB 1957
As planned, the Chur-Brambrüesch mountain railway now consisted of two sections, with the first section consisting of an aerial tramway and the second section of a gondola lift with two-seater cabins. The construction of the cable car was awarded to the Von Roll AG works in Bern, while the gondola lift was built by the company Giovanola Frères in Monthey. After initial preparatory work in the fall of 1956, actual construction began in the spring of 1957. The official commissioning of the Brambrüeschbahn took place on December 14, 1957.
The aerial cableway of the first section Chur-Känzeli has remained largely unchanged to this day, while the gondola lift was demolished in 1998 and replaced by a used Von Roll VR 102 four-seater gondola lift. But the concession for the aerial tramway will expire at the end of 2006 and there is also a project for a replacement system. Actually, an extension of the existing gondola down to the valley on the route of the cable car that was to be demolished was favored, whereby the Känzeli station would have become an intermediate station with cabin passage. But various objections let this project run into a dead end. The reason: A gondola could not climb as steeply from the valley station as a cable car; Rather, the route would have to run over masts at a low height over the grounds of the town hall, private property and then along the steep mountain slope. In order to avoid a costly dispute with the owners of the affected property, the construction of a new aerial tramway with a capacity of 600 to 800 people per hour is being discussed. Thus, both sections would again be coordinated in their capacities. Only the change to Känzeli will not be spared the passengers of the Brambrüeschbahn in the future.

Directly from the city to the mountain experience up to 2'200m! Chur's local mountain, the Brambrüesch, is an extremely worthwhile excursion destination in all seasons.
